The administrator, Salvation International School, Mrs. Olayinka Somoye, has said that there is a connection between sports and academic success.
She stated this during the school’s inter-house sports held at the University of Lagos sports centre.
Somoye, said the school laid emphasis on sports because its founders believe that “excellence goes beyond academic achievements.”
Acknowledging sports as an elixir for acquiring physical and social skills as well as self-confidence, she urged parents to help their children to discover, grow and nurture their abilities.
She also advised pupils to give always their best in sporting events, noting however that such competitions were not always about winning medals.
A former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ogun State, Mr. Oluwemimo Ogunde, who chaired the occasion, advised parents to contribute in training their children well.
He added that pupils should be encouraged to use sports as an avenue of loving God and fellow human beings.
“Those that love God cannot hate humanity, country and parents,” Ogunde said.
