The Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has won the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary election to represent the party as its candidate in the August 9 governorship poll in the state.
The Chairman of Osun 2014 Gubernatorial Primary Election, Mr. Adamu Aliero, announced the result of the primary election conducted in Osogbo under tight security.
He declared that Omisore scored 1,128 votes while Senator Olasunkanmi Alkinlabi got 45 votes, Mr. Wole Oke got five votes and 18 votes were voided.
The three politicians contested for the ticket of the party following the boycott of the primary by Mr. Isiaka Adeleke.
Aliero, who is a former governor of Kebbi State, said the party was sure of winning the state with the solidarity shown at the venue.
Although, there was heavy presence of policemen and other security operatives at the venue of the election and adjoining streets, there was no incident of violence.
Adeleke had announced on Friday night he would boycott the primary poll, alleging that one of the contestants had threatened to kill many people if he (Adeleke) participated in the primary election.
Adeleke said in order to avoid bloodshed, he withdrew from the primary poll. He maintained he would only participate whenever the PDP was ready to conduct a credible primary.
Akinlabi, one of the contestants in the Saturday primary, had rejected the outcome of the ward delegate congresses which produced delegates for the primary election.
Omisore, who thanked the delegates for having confidence in him welcomed other contestants on board, saying they all need to work together to dislodge the APC from the state.
He said, “I welcome everybody on board. We must work together. APC has already lost in the state. Nothing is working; no commerce and the schools are in a comatose condition.”
