A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Mr. Iyiola Omisore, on Thursday alleged that some people were threatening his life while calling on the police to ensure that nothing untoward happened to him.
He said this in a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, in Osogbo.
The governorship aspirant said Governor Rauf Aregbesola and leaders of his party, the All Progressives Congress had kept mentioning bloodshed saying security agents should caution them based on this.
He said, “Otunba Iyiola Omisore has been receiving threat messages and this is a dangerous sign. We don’t want what happened to Funsho Williams in Lagos State when he was about to be nominated to happen to him.
“We are calling on the police and the Federal Government to ensure that Omisore is secure. Security agencies should monitor Mr. Rauf Aregbesola and caution him because he has been mentioning bloodshed since.
“They sent thugs to Ondo and Anambra during the governorship election and we know that if they did that in states not theirs, you can imagine what they will do here in Osun State.
” The police in the state should be at alert, more men should be deployed to monitor the ongoing continuos voter registration exercise.
“We are urging our people to remain calm and only fight with their votes.”
The aspirant also restated his call for the removal of Ambassador Rufus Akeju as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state.
But the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, in his response to the allegation said it was the PDP that was known for violence, assassination and every bad thing.
He claimed that many hoodlums working for the PDP killed many innocent people of the state in their efforts to sit permanently on the mandate stolen from Aregbesola in 2007.
Oyatomi said, “The PDP has been shedding blood. Violence is their trademark. The records of their bloodletting activities are there for everyone to see.”
The statement from the APC reads, “Reports reaching the APC Secretariat informed of the tragedy that resulted after a PDP meeting at Gbodo degenerated into violence during which their own party man was killed.
“But in an attempt to divert attention from the crime, the PDP unleashed violence on the father of Ife East Local Government Executive Secretary, Mr Tajudeen Lawal, vandalizing the old man’s property.
“The APC wants the security services to take very seriously the increasing audacity with which the PDP is operating violently in Osun and constituting itself into a lawless and reckless army of thugs bent on intimidating the people to support their party.”
