Northern Govs Extol Former President Shagari’s ‘Uncommon Pedigree’ At 89

shehu_usman_aliyu_shagariFirst Executive President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari has been described as “a statesman of uncommon pedigree” by the Northern States Governors Forum as he turns 89 today.

In their tribute to the former president, the governors said that Shagari played politics without rancor or bitterness and placed utmost priority on the values and virtues of constitutional democracy.

The forum’s Chairman and governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary – Danladi Ndayebo – in Minna on Monday, said that “Shagari’s politics eschews bitterness. Even opponents concede that he is a disciplined man, whose life symbolises a rejection of the corrupting influences that distract the commitment of some leaders”.

It further noted that Shagari was the greatest statesman around today, and urged Nigerians to emulate his exemplary life that was characterised by honesty, selflessness and the fear of God.

The forum said it was proud to be associated with the achievements of the former Nigerian leader, especially his contributions to the deepening of the nation’s democracy.

It prayed God to grant the former president excellent health, courage and many more years of selfless service to Nigeria and humanity in general.
