Niger CJ frees four inmates

The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Fati Abubakar, on Monday ordered the release of four inmates serving various sentences at the Suleja Prisons.

Abubakar released the inmates, who had between four days and two months left to complete their sentences, during her visit to the prison.

The released inmates, Salisu Mohammed, Mohammed Ibrahim, Francis Okon and Lawal Yakubu, had been convicted of offences of theft, joint act, criminal trespass and conspiracy.

Abubakar advised the inmates to be useful to themselves and the society at large and to change from their old ways.

She expressed satisfaction that very few of the inmates in the prison were still awaiting trial as most of them were already in court.

Abubakar urged stakeholders to continue to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.

“I want to call on all stakeholders to ensure that they do their best in bringing justice to those who deserve it,” she said

Earlier, the Officer in charge of the Suleja Prisons, DCP Okadamiri Peter, said there were a total of 348 inmates in the prison.
