The Kaduna State Government has inaugurated the Systematic Land Titling and Registration project aimed at offering automatic Certificate of Occupancy to land owners in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the registration is being undertaken in partnership with the Growth and Employment in States programme.
The state Manager of GEMS3, Hajiya Aisha Mujaddadi, said on Friday in an interview with the NAN in Kaduna that 1,000 parcels of land had been registered in Kaduna metropolis under a pilot scheme involving the communities.
“The SLTR will allow owners of properties to have formal property rights by receiving certificates of occupancy quickly and cheaply.
“Field teams will register land, house by house, working closely with land owners and traditional leaders in the area.”
Mujaddadi said the registration would give land owners the opportunity to secure tenure, allow better access to credit and invest in real estate.
The manager said “GEMS3 has already completed a pilot programme in Ungwar Rimi, with over 1000 parcels of land registered to date.
“We intend to reach at least 10,000 additional land owners by mid of 2014″ she said.
