Scores of hoodlums clashed in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday, paralysing economic activities in the town.
But the timely intervention of security operatives prevented further havoc.
The hoodlums were said to have brandished machetes, unleashing terror on residents and traders around Edun, Emir Road, Post-Office area, some parts of Muritala Muhammed Road, Offa Road and Taiwo Isale Road.
A source, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, said he saw some hoodlums, wielding cutlasses at Kilanko area of Offa Garage and moved towards the Sawmill area.
He added that one of the hoodlums, who appeared as their leader, was armed with four new cutlasses.
The rampaging hoodlums rode on motorcycles and scared people with their cutlasses and broken bottles.
Traders and other people, engaged in other business activities in the affected areas, hurriedly closed and fled.
Also, oncoming motorists hurriedly made a U-turn to avoid being caught up in the troubled spots.
Some also abandoned their vehicles, scampered for safety and only resurfaced to retrieve their vehicles after the crisis had subsided.
No one could adduce reasons for the violence while the miscreants did not say why they were on the rampage.
