Heartland drew 1-1 with Dolphins in a Week 1 game played at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri Sunday, while there were home wins for Lobi and Akwa United.
The host team took the lead through a deflected goal-bound free kick fired by Kelechi Ezeh in the 35th minute. Ifeanyi Egwin equalised for Dolphins in the 43rd minute.
This is the first time Dolphins will score a goal in the last seven meetings of both teams in Owerri in the league.
In Katsina Ala, Lobi Stars beat hard fighting Crown FC by a lone goal.
The Ogbomoso-based team took the game to the more experienced Lobi, but lost the game to a 90th minute goal scored by Stephen Ezeh who headed in Moses Bunde’s corner kick.
Lobi captain Ikpeen Terna told MTNFootball.com it was a tough game but delighted with the last-gasp winner.
“It was not an easy game at all. The Crown players gave us a good fight, I thank God we got the three points at the end of the day,”Ikpeen told MTNFootball.com
Namso Edo’s 54th minute penalty was all Akwa United needed to beat Gombe United.
Namso coolly converted the spot kick to beat Chigozie Agbim in goal for Gombe after rampaging Ubong Ekpai was brought down by a Gombe United defender.
Ekpai missed two clear chances, one was a side netting after he had rounded up Agbim.
“It was a good and tough match. I missed couple of chances in the game but I hope to make amends in subsequent games,” Ekpai promised.
