Injury doubt Kabiru Umar started the Week two encounter for Pillars as Rabiu Ali and Bello Musa Kofarmata dropped to the bench.
Super Eagles midfielder Chirsantus Ejike Uzoenyi immediately assumed control of the midfield, bossing Pillars Around early on into the encounter.
Emeka Eze opened scoring for Rangers in the eighth minute from 25 yards.
Umar leveled scores for the Kano State team a minute after the half hour mark, heading home from the far post.
The hosts were awarded a spot kick two minutes after the equaliser, after Razaq Adegbite was pulled down in the area. The ‘Sai Masugida’ goalie Theophilus Afelokhai held his nerves to perfectly palm away an Eze spot kick to leave the proceedings leveled at 1-1.
Christian Osas restored Rangers’ lead moments after being booked for simulation, cutting swiftly inside his marker to score from an Eze assist in first-half injury time.
Both teams defended superbly in the second 45 minutes while play swung from end to end, but Rangers held on to victory also missing some glorious chances in the closing minutes of the game.
