The FRSC on Thursday threatened to arrest and prosecute motorists with fake driver’s licence, number plates and vehicle documents.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Corps Secretary, Mr Kayode Fanola, issued the threat at a sensitisation programme on fake documents in Ado-Ekiti.
Fanola lamented the usage of fake vehicle documents, saying that the growing trend was worrisome.
According to him, having fake vehicle document is a criminal offence that must be dealt with.
He said FRSC would henceforth arrest and prosecute such people having in their possession fake documents.
“We want the public to know that the drivers’ licence is a security document and anyone caught with fake document will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Most Nigerians patronise touts because they do not want to pass through the normal processes of obtaining genuine documents and when you do that, you get a fake, because licence cannot be done by proxy,’’ Fanola said.
He warned FRSC officials against involving themselves in illegal business, noting that anyone caught would be made to face the law.
Mr Adenrele Owoade, who represented the Ekiti Sector Commander, Mr Rindim Kumven, thanked Fanola for the sensitisation programme.
Owoade said FRSC was committed toward making Nigerian roads safe for all motorists.
