The Federal Government on Tuesday said it would ensure adequate security of lives and property throughout the country.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, said this when the participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course in the Institute for Security Studies, visited him.
Anyim said President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was determined to ensure security of Nigeria at all times.
“My greatest pride as a Nigerian is that I believe I have been given an opportunity to contribute to ensure that the security of this country is tight.
“To also make sure that there is peace, unity and progress; this is one opportunity that no person should play with.
“The present administration is working to make sure that Nigerians are safe at work, home, in the air, on the road and everywhere they go about doing their normal activities,” he said.
He said the participants should insist on the highest degree of patriotism from the leaders and policy makers of the country.
He added that the course was to study issues surrounding security and that “Nigerians expect that you should come out with the best”.
“I want to assure you that efforts will be made to make this course easy for you to undertake so that there is no reason for you to be distracted.
“We expect that you should give maximum attention to the course so that by the time you come out, the knowledge gained will be visible.
“We all must learn to be understanding, tolerant, patient, accommodating and very disciplined,” he said.
The SGF said Nigerians were expecting a secured environment without which development could not be guaranteed.
Director of the Institute, Mr Olalekan Odughemi, said the course was designed to equip the participants with the required skills to handle complex security situations.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the course, which began on March 30, has 41 participants from different agencies in attendance.
