Family Of Detained 17-Year Old Boko Haram Suspect Drag SSS To Court

sss-solo2Relatives of Muntari Suleiman, who was clamped into detention for allegedly belonging to the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram, have filed a motion against the Department of State Security (DSS) demanding his immediate freedom or arraignment in court.

The action taken by the family to enforce the fundamental human rights of the accused was filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja through their counsel Barrister Ayuba Abdul.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Mohammed Adoke (SAN) was also joined as defendant in the case.

Muntari’s uncle, Yakubu Akor, affirmed that he decided to go to court following several failed attempts by the family to secure his release after he was arrested in Ayingba, Kogi State since January 2013.

When the matter was called for hearing yesterday, counsel to the DSS, Godwin Agbadoa told the court that efforts are being made to produce the suspect from the SSS custody in Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to the family, Muntari, who was 17-years-old and a secondary school leaver, was seeking admission into the Kogi State University, Ayingba, when he was arrested while in possession of a laptop only. They said he has since been kept incommunicado.

Justice Abdul Kafarati adjourned the suit to March 19 for hearing.
