The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday urged district and ward heads in Adamawa State to expose drug barons and traffickers in their domain.
The state NDLEA Commander, Alhaji Hassan Zungeru, made the call in Yola at a one-day sensitisation workshop organised for local government employees, and district and ward heads.
The workshop was organised by the agency in collaboration with the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Zungeru said fighting illicit drugs would not be successful without the support of traditional rulers.
He said, “Those perpetrating this illicit activity live in the communities under your control.
“The agency is advising you to expose them because they live within your localities.”
He said the agency would protect anyone who provided vital information on the hideout and activities of such people.
The Lamido of Adanawa, Alhaji Nuhammadu Barkindo, represented by Dangaladima Adamawa, Alhaji Lawal Ribadu, said that the emirate would support NDLEA to control the menace of drug traffickers.
He said the traditional institution would not fold its arms and allow future generations to be rendered hopeless by some unpatriotic elements in the society.
More than 50 district and ward heads participated at the workshop.
