Leighton Baines says Everton will keep fighting for a top-four finish, despite handing the initiative back to Arsenal with their defeat to Crystal Palace, Skysports reports.
The Toffees’ surprise 3-2 loss to Tony Pulis’ side on Wednesday night means they missed the chance to reclaim fourth position from the Gunners, who they now trail by a point and a place.
Both teams have four games remaining, with Everton facing what appears to be the tougher of the two run-ins.
However, England left-back Baines has not given up hope of claiming the final Champions League qualification spot.
“We are not in control of it,” admitted Baines. “We are waiting for others to do us favours.
“But we have said all along it was going to be tough. It would be nice to have it in your own hands but we need to keep trying to win games and stay in there.”
Everton had won seven matches in a row going into Wednesday’s clash at Goodison Park.
