The Nigeria Police Force said its investigation has unearthed the identities of three suspects who are wanted in connection with torture of two market women in Ejigbo area of Lagos.
The men, whose pictures were released on the force’s website and Facebook wall, were identified as Ranti Lukeman Akande, Akeem Shitu and Tiri.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, stated, “Akande a.k.a Otempa uses the appellations: Comrade or Alhaji or Chief Ranti Lukeman Akande. He is between 45 and 50 years old.
“He had been known as a panel beater before he started parading himself as the Oodua Peoples’ Congress coordinator.
“Shitu is about 42 years old. He is from Ayete in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State. He is married and is believed to be a member of the OPC at Ejigbo.
“Tiri, who hails from Ibadan in Ibadan-North Local Government Area of Oyo State, is about 37 years old.”
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, had on January 21, 2014, ordered detectives from the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Lagos) to take over investigation into the alleged torture of the two women in Ejigbo.
The women were allegedly tortured over the theft of pepper in Ejigbo Market.
The police have since arrested 12 suspects in connection with the crime.
