The proprietress of CEDEC International Schools, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos, Dr. Ijeoma Unachukwu, has urged parents to employ new strategies in raising their children.
This, according to her, is to keep these youngsters away from sexual harassment and other associated abuses.
She stated this during the school’s Mothers’ Forum entitled “The functional mother in the home”.
She said, “The Nigeria of today is in our individual homes, if we can get back to proper parenting. We cannot raise our children the same old way our parents raised us. Technology is one of the new challenges that now confront us. So we need to adopt new strategies.
“To be a successful mother, you must be ‘wicked’. You must have high moral standards and values which will reflect on the children too.”
According to her, the new strategies include close mother-child interaction, careful observation at home and constant monitoring of children’s access to technological devices at home and in school.
“The Nigerian society urgently needs well-disciplined parents who can bring back the lost values and morals,” she added.
The event, which had over 100 women in attendance, witnessed special sessions on issues bordering on parenting.
