General Manager, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Akin Onimole, has said transparency and due process in government activities would endear it to the people.
Onimole said this on Tuesday during the visit of a delegate from Niger State to understudy the workings of the agency with a view to replicating same in Niger.
He stated that Lagos had undergone procedures of procurement, including implementation and challenges, adding that the achievements the agency had recorded showed that due process and procurement was working in the state.
Onimole said, “For procurement to achieve its target objective, all hands must be on deck for it to progress.
“I urge our friend from Niger State to take full advantages of the procurement process and fashion out a way to fine-tune hitherto unknown avenues to achieve result. But you must adhere strictly to due process in the procurement process.
“The public procurement agency has the duty to monitor the procurement activities of the 100 ministries, departments and agencies in Lagos with a view to enforcing standard and compliance to the laid down procedures.”
He said the delegate had a grasp of the legal and institutional framework set up in Lagos to move procurement forward, while calling for collaboration among other states in this regard.
The five-man delegate was led by the Coordinator, Niger State Public Sector Governance Reform and Development, Mr. Siraj S’aid, who said the government of Niger State was eager to replicate the public procurement policy in the state.
S’aid stated that the aim of the visit was to interact with the procurement officers of Lagos and get first hand information on how they got it right.
“We want to replicate what we see in Lagos in our state. We came here to know the challenges inherent in procurement and how you got it right,” he said.
