Crimea vote will be respected, says Russia

Russia will “respect the will of the people of Crimea”, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said ahead of Sunday’s referendum in the region.

He was speaking after what he called “constructive” talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry in London.

However, Lavrov said that Russia and the US did “not have a common vision” on the crisis in Ukraine.

Crimeans are to vote on whether to leave Ukraine or become Russians. The US has warned Moscow of “serious steps”.
