The Kebbi State Government said that local government councils would be provided additional funds to combat criminal activities in their respective areas.
The Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Nurudden Kangiwa, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday that the gesture would help to enhance peaceful coexistence in the state.
Kangiwa said prompt release of fund to the councils on security matters would be accorded priority.
He said the councils would also be allocated funds for the execution of development project as part of efforts to provide a sense of belonging that would ensure peace.
Kangiwa, however, urged the councils to extend support to vigilance groups in their areas by providing them with stipends and work tools.
He commended traditional rulers in the state for their support on security matters in their domain and for ensuring the implementation of government’s policies and programmes, especially on health and education.
The SSG said the state government would continue to collaborate with stakeholders on security to ensure a secured and peaceful environment through the 24-hour joint security patrol of the state.
Kangiwa called on youths to engage in productive ventures in preference to indolence, stressing that skills acquisition centres would be provided for the training of job seekers.
