Head coach of the Nigeria women’s U-17 team Bala Nikyu has named 21 players to represent the country at this year’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Silver boot winner at Azerbaijan 2012 tournament, Chiwendu Ihezuo, leads the squad as they seek to build on their successive quarter-final exits in the two previous editions of the tournament.
Other notable players in the squad are Joy Bokiri, Aminat Yakubu, Uchenna Kanu, Ugochi Emenayo, Mary Ologbosere, Patience Dike and Tessy Biahwo.
The team starts the tournament against China on Sunday in the wake of a 19-day final training camp in Faro, where they won all their friendly matches except for a barren draw against Belgium’s U-17 in Brussels on March 4.
Other group games against Colombia and Mexico to follow on March 19 and 23 respectively.
The Flamingoes arrived in San Jose, capital city of Costa Rica on Thursday morning ahead of their opening group game.
