I can’t remember the last time we had it going so badly in continental club competitions such that we now have only Bayelsa United in the CAF Confederations Cup. Nigerian champions Kano Pillars; two-time CAF Champions League winners Enyimba were swept off like teams from the Indian Ocean. The next became Warri Wolves out of the Confed Cup.
What is amazing is that we have fallen like cards in a period we are still known as the African champions; the period we won the bronze medal at the African Nations Championship and then reigning as FIFA U-17 champions. Within these honours I thought we would have been riding so high but it is just the opposite.
So what could have caused this horrendous fall? When we got to the semi-finals of CHAN it was said that the Eagles got that far in their first appearance because our league is good. And so now that our league teams have all lost out so quickly what does it explain? I don’t have the answers. Anyone who has the answer should please supply.
