Armed men ‘patrol’ Ukraine’s Crimea airport

Dozens of armed men in military uniforms have been seen patrolling the grounds of Simferopol Airport in the regional capital of Ukraine’s Crimea, amid heightened tensions.

The men, said to be armed with assault rifles, are going in and out of the control tower, Reuters reports.

It comes a day after pro-Russian armed men stormed Crimea’s local parliament.

It was not immediately clear who the men were, nor the reason for their presence at the airport.

Witnesses told Interfax-Ukraine news agency earlier that around 50 men had arrived at the airport carrying Russian navy flags.

The airport was said to be operating as normal
