APC to alter congress timetable

The All Progressives Congress is set to announce an alteration of its scheduled programme of activities leading up to the 2015 elections, The PUNCH has learnt.

Our correspondent gathered in Abuja on Wednesday that the party has not been able to follow through with the setting up of State Congress Committees as well as Appeal Committees slated for March 3 to 7, 2014 due to logistics challenges.

When contacted, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, confirmed that the party would announce “slight” alterations to its programme of activities during the unveiling of its road map scheduled to hold on Thursday (today).

He said, “We have made some changes to it (time-table of activities); we will make it public tomorrow.”

It will be recalled that the party had released a document detailing its programme of activities scheduled to take place before the emergence of candidates for the 2015 elections.

According to the document, the training of Local Government Area supervisors (for membership registration), will hold from January 27 to 28, 2014; the training of ward supervisors, January 30 to 31, 2014, and the training of polling unit registration officers, February 1 to 3,2014.

The dispatch of registration materials to states will also take place  from January 27 to  February 2, 2014, while the registration of members will commence on February 5 and end on February 10, 2014.

Registered members are expected to return the duplicate of their membership cards from February 13 to 18, 2014.

March 3 to 7, 2014, is slated for the setting up of Appeal Committees, while the dispatch of all congress materials to states is to take place from March 10 to 13, 2014.

Ward congresses are to hold across the country on Saturday March 15, 2014, while appeals arising from the congresses will take place from March 17 to 19, 2014.

Saturday, March 22, 2014 has been set aside for local government congresses, while appeals arising from them are to be considered as from March 24 to 26, 2014.

State congresses are to hold on Saturday, March 29, 2014 while appeals will be considered as from  March 31 up till April 2, 2014.

The party has yet to come out with a template for how candidates will emerge.
