Amaechi: Jonathan Suspended Sanusi Because He Knows Nothing Will Happen

jonathan_n_sanusiRivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has faulted the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido, saying the action was unconstitutional.

Sanusi was suspended by President Goodluck Jonathan last Thursday pending investigations into findings by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria that his leadership of the apex bank was characterized by ‘financial recklessness’.

But the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF Chairman, insisted that the president lacked the sweeping powers to suspend a CBN governor from office.

Speaking yesterday at Christ Church, Port Harcourt, Amaechi said “You can imagine how President Jonathan announced the sudden removal (suspension) of the CBN Governor.

“He does not have such powers. He knows that nothing will happen that was why he took that action. So, I think the preachers should begin to preach what we called the liberation theology. You (church leaders) are supposed to have more responsibilities to hold government accountable”, Amaechi said

While urging the church to pray against acts of impunity and corruption in the country, the governor also decried the alleged missing $49.8 billion from the federation account.

Continuing, he urged the church to insist on accountability from the nation’s political leaders, stressing that it was a duty expected from Christians and religious leaders in the country.
