The 3rd edition of the KGI All-African Junior Golf Tournament will hold in Lagos from April 13 to 17, organisers of the event have said.
The international event, organised by Kids Golf International, is making its debut in Lagos and will hold in partnership with the golf section of the Ikoyi Club 1938. The previous two events were held at the IBB Golf Club, Abuja in 2012 and 2013.
The chairman of KGI, Oba Dokun Thompson said, “KGI is delivering on its promise to develop the sport in Nigeria and we are grateful to Ikoyi Club for making available its golf facilities to host the event.”
He added, “Golf requires a long term developmental plan; this is why we aim to ensure our calendar is consistent. We have held this event annually at the same time of the year so that parents can plan ahead.
“Golf is a global sport and Nigeria will not be left out of the sport that builds people of good character and helps local and national economies. In addition to the event, we will also be launching the KGI Golf Digest magazine as part of KGI’s commitment to ensure that knowledge about the game can reach every corner of Nigeria.”
Intending players are expected to register for the event from on Saturday. The official opening will hold on Sunday with first ever parent/child contest.
The tournament is a ranking event recognised by the R&A and the USGA. It is also used as qualifier for some international events such as the US Kids European Championship, the US Kids World Championships and Junior Africa Challenge in South Africa.
