ACF bemoans increasing Northern attacks

The Pan-Northern socio-political organization, Arewa Consultative Forum on Monday expressed concern over the increasing attacks by gunmen on the people of the region and called on the Federal Government to
investigate an alleged external influence.

National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Muhammad Ibrahim, said in a statement in Kaduna on Monday investigating external influence in the ongoing attacks on the region became necessary in view of the
sophisticated weapon being used by the attackers.

The ACF said, “The Federal Government should investigate the possibility of alleged external influence considering the sophistication of arms being used by the gunmen and insurgents.”

The northern body said it was again shocked by the gruesome killing of more than 100 innocent people and destruction of their property in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State on March 15.

It said the wisdom of associating such attacks with religion or ethnicity should be discouraged, as the warring parties in communities where these killings took place had lived together peacefully over the years.

It said, “This is indeed very sad and worrisome. The frequency of such attacks by gunmen in Northern states has placed the region under siege. The disturbing reality is that there is no sign of this intractable war coming to an end.

“ACF calls on the Northern States to pool their resources together and fund the security apparatus in their states for effect, similar to the security Joint Task Force operating in Lagos and Kano states

“The intelligence community and governments should do more to unravel the cause, motives and sources of arms, and funding of these terrorists.”
