AA wants Electoral Act violators punished

ACTION Alliance has faulted the commencement of campaigns, including display of campaign posters by some political parties for the Osun and Ekiti governorship elections, contrary to the provision of the Electoral Act.

The party, which stated that it would field candidates for all the elective positions in the governorship polls, therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to impose sanctions on the parties.

The National Chairman of AA, Mr. Tunde Anifowose-Kelani, who stated this on Saturday in Abuja during the party’s special national convention, expressed worry that INEC was not stopping the defaulting parties as a result of what it described as the high level of impunity with which things were done in the country.

According to him, the party which would also “field candidates in the 2015 general elections” was already undergoing some reorganisations and taking assessment of its activities within the last one year.

He said, “The main problem we are facing is that some political parties have already started campaigning for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, which is very wrong.
