NHIS Makes Gains In Nabdam And Talensi Districts
Since the introduction of National Health Insurance Scheme in the Talensi and Nabdam districts in May 2012, the two schemes have made over 4,000 new registrations, and about 8,000 renewals.
Some of the new registrations and renewals were done free of charge for people in the districts to help increase healthcare delivery. The NHIS started in Tongo, in the then Talensi/Nabdam District, with a staff strength of about eight with no furnished office.
However, with support from the regional and national offices of the scheme, the Tongo branch now has 19 staff, a furnished and computerised office, which enables the scheme to register beneficiaries within the district.
This was made known by the Talensi and Nabdam Scheme Manager, Mr. Jeremiah Awine Abugbire, during the celebration of the 10 th Anniversary of the NHIS at Tongo in the Talensi District.
Mr. Abugbire assured beneficiaries of an end to the usual delays in receiving registered cards. He said the scheme, in its ten years of operation, was rebranding itself as well as its logo.
As part of activities to mark the anniversary celebrations, the NHIS organised a health walk and free health screening exercise over the weekend.
The District Chief Executive for Talensi District, Mr. Edward Awunoore, pledged the assembly’s support for the scheme.
He also said that district assembly hoped to put up additional structures for the scheme, to help improve healthcare delivery in the district.
