Zenith Bank Women Basketball League resumes today

AFTER observing yesterday as rest day, teams vying for honours in the Zenith Bank Basketball League will file out today in the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, also known as Sports City, to continue their chase for the top prize.

The first game will involve Delta Force and FCT Angels in a match expected to be hotly contested. Angels won its first game against Plateau Rocks on Tuesday and will hope to follow that up with another win against its opponent today.

Coach Emmanuel Odah knows that his team is at a disadvantage after missing three games due to late arrival, but he is still sure that they would make up for lost points in the remaining games, saying: “We can win this game and continue our chance to retain our Premier League statues. We shocked them in the first phase last season and I am sure we can repeat the feat.”

Odah is also aware of the enormous responsibility on his young team and is banking on his players’ strength to deliver the points in today’s game. He added: “I have a set of young players that are ready to do well and they have shown a lot of improvement in the first two phases.”

In the second game, Plateau Rocks of Jos takes on returnee Dolphins of Lagos in a game that promises a thrilling encounter. The ladies from Jos got beaten 64-62 by FCT and would hope for a better result against Dolphins.

However, they would have to be at their best to secure the needed win as their opponents have also proved that they have not lost their fighting spirit despite missing the first two phases.

Plateu Rocks’ coach, Chris Wesley, told The Guardian that he was ready for the game, noting that they would have to improve and take the game to Dolphin if they hope to win in the game. He added that his team would have to take its scoring and make more accurate passes.

League leader, Firs Deepwater, will also take on Customs in a game Deepwater is expected to win while First Bank and AHIP battle for points in the last game.
