West Africa: Nigerian Governor Gets 2012 Kwame Nkrumah Peace Award

Sokoto — The International Centre for Peace and Charity has conferred the 2012 Award of Nkrumah Peace and Good Governance on Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

Sokoto State Commissioner of Information, Nasir Danladi Bako who disclosed this in a statement made available to Sunday Trust yesterday said the award came a few months after the governor was bestowed with The International World Muslim League in Saudi Arabia.

According to the commissioner, the 2012 Nkrumah Peace and Good Governance Award ceremony took place penultimate weekend in Accra Ghana.

Bako said the award was “in recognition of Governor Wamakko’s tremendous transformation of Sokoto State and his outstanding performance as an epitome of good governance and purposeful leadership”.

In his response at the occasion, Wamakko who was represented by the Commissioner of Information noted the leadership qualities and Afro-centric ideological teachings of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

This he observed, “propelled the faster liberation of African nations from the yoke of colonialism and neo-colonialism.”

The award ceremony was said to have attracted dignitaries from Ghana, Nigeria and Cote Di’voire, including Nana Okuffor, the paramount ruler of Koforidua, Ghana. It also featured two lectures on Nkrumahism as an ideology and climate change in Africa.
