The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention has thrown the spanner into the ongoing merger talks between his party and the Convention People’s Party.
Hassan Ayariga says it is unrealistic for both parties to think the merger will happen before the December 7 general elections.
The two parties have been engaged in unity talks in a bid to merge and campaign together in the 2012 polls.
But speaking exclusively to Joy News, the PNC presidential candidate explained it is unlikely the two parties will conclude the processes for the merger before the end of the year.
He said consistently harping on PNC, CPP merger only serve to confuse supporters of the two parties at the grassroots.
“We don’t have the time; we don’t have the resources because before it will happen, we have to dissolve the two parties and by dissolving them, we will need the mandate of congress not ourselves, not general secretary, not chairman, not flagbearer,” he said.
