Lone Star charter plane for Eagles

Liberia authorities have hired a plan for Saturday’s Nations Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Calabar.

The mobilisation committee set up to raise funds to prosecute the all-important match has the country’s Vice President Joseph Boakai  as a member and it has successfully secured a 100-seater plane that would convey both the team and supporters to Calabar for the crucial encounter.

They are hopeful of gaining the Nations Cup ticket at the expense of Nigeria and they are pressing all buttons to ensure this.

The Chairman of the Mobilization Committee, Edwin M. Snowe, at the weekend disclosed that five government agencies and a foreign business executive contributed various sums of money towards the cause..

Vanguard Sports had reported that the committee, in collaboration with the Government of Liberia has put on the table US$300,000 as a winning package. This translates to US$10,000 (or L$73,000) per player, besides their regular allowances.

According to Snowe, some of the amount was used to underwrite the cost of the 8-day camping at the Red Bull Academy in Ghana, and the 2-man delegation advance team to Calabar, which comprised of LFA Vice President Musa Shannon and Senator Geraldine Doe-Sherif.

He further disclosed that the remaining amount will be spent to ease the expected difficulty which the Lone Star may incur, including hotel accommodation, local transport, food, water  amongst others.

“We want to use this time to extend our thanks and appreciation to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf who mandated Vice President Joseph Boakai to work with us to ensure the collection of the money.

“We want to thank Vice President Boakai for his time and effort and all those who contributed to this worthy cause.”
