K-POLY joins POTAG indefinite strike over Single Spine

The Kumasi Polytechnic has joined in the indefinite strike declared by the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG).

The Association declared the action on Monday to drive home demands for immediate migration and payment of salary under the Single Spine Salary Structure.

Members, at an emergency meeting in Kumasi, declared support in the decision by the national leadership of POTAG to strike. The polytechnic teachers are also demanding full payment of their single spine pay arrears.

K-Poly Chairman of POTAG, Edmond Oppong Peprah told Luv Fm the teachers will return to classroom only when the single spine salary hits members’ accounts.

“I should say that the strike has already commenced. We would like to see our single spine salary materialized in our account; when this happens we’ll go back to the classroom”, he said.

Mr. Oppong Peprah however said special arrangements will be made to support some academic work on campus, though he will not give details.

Members at the Kumasi Polytechnic and other regions, a couple of weeks ago decried the slow pace of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) in their migration, and hinted of an industrial action if they are not migrated by end of May, 2012.
