For this year’s election, many musicians have released songs for the Presidential Candidates especially Prez John Mahama and Nana Akuffo Addo.
For now, we have the likes of Great Ampong, Adangba, Barima Sidney, etc. As to whether these musicians can really help any of the Presidential Candidates to win the elections or not, I can’t tell but I wouldn’t want to discuss that now. Definitely, before the Election Day itself, more musicians both known and unknown would release songs in support of one Presidential Candidate or the other.
With all these musicians campaigning for their respective Presidential Candidates, one musician’s status baffled me. Barima Sidney is the musician in question.
What I have observed is that, it`s been a very long since Barima Sidney released a non-political single or full album. As a result, many people are of the view that Barima Sidney may have decided not to do any other kind of song than a political song.
Currently, he has released a single titled ”bye bye love” and this is one is a clear example of a political song that is geared towards winning more votes for Nana Akuffo Addo of the NPP. Even before this song was released, Barima Sidney was heard on a song released for the NDP.
To ascertain if Barima Sidney had indeed decided to do only political songs, Flex Newspaper had an exclusive interview with him. According to him, contrary to the view held by many people, he does not only do political songs. He noted that he released ”bye bye love” just because we have found ourselves in a political season but then, right after the elections, Ghanaians should expect a very impressive and refreshing non-political album from him.
He intends to release the new album in February, 2013.He recorded some of the tracks in the United States with an engineer named FIF, who has also been featured on the album as he sings so well. He is also working on some other tracks with notable sound engineers in Ghana. Unlike the current azonto craze having dominance over the airwaves, Barima Sidney revealed that this album will be purely hip hop as he used to do way back in 1996.
Before the album is released, Flex Newspaper will update readers on the title of the album, some of the hit tracks as well as some of the artistes featured on it. Until then, Barima Sidney says he does not do only political songs as some people would want to believe.
