White Rose Energy Ventures, an oil and gas exploration company has completed its first community project in Accra, commissioning and constructing a Water Tower at the Nii Sowa Din Memorial School. The school is located in the Adenta Municipality of Greater Accra and has a population of up to 2000 school children ranging from kindergarten to senior secondary level.
The Water Tower has been constructed with four 5,000 litre tanks providing a maximum capacity of 20,000 litres of water which is drawn from a bore hole and then purified in a reverse osmosis plant, both of which were also financed by White Rose Energy. The water supply now services all main buildings, a newly built toilet block and drinking taps located throughout the grounds of the school. Prior to this project the school has no running water to buildings or toilets. The school plans to supply its surplus water to the local community, providing a much needed local resource at nominal cost to cover the running costs of the project.
During the official commissioning of the completed project on Tuesday morning, White Rose Energy also presented the school with over 500 science textbooks which have been re-cycled from a secondary school in London. Earlier in the year, the company provided some mathematics book and CEO, Jim Bradley said he hopes that would contribute to providing some brilliant scientists for Ghana in the years to come.
Mr Bradley said: “We are really pleased to have been involved in this project and really hope that the children benefit from running water. One day hopefully some of these children might find themselves working in the exciting Ghanaian oil and gas sector!”
Ms Rosemond Ketieku, Municpal Director of Education for Adentan, commended White Rose Energy Ventures for provided a vital resource that is a scarcity in the Adentan Community. She urged the administrators of the school to take care of the water tower and adopt a maintenance culture that would ensure that the school will have continuous free flow of good and healthy water.
