Ex-ghana Star Arhinful Latest To Blast Caf Over Katongo’s Snub

Posted On Wednesday, 28th November 2012

Ex-Ghana international Augustine Arhinful is the latest to lash out at CAF for ignoring  Christopher Katongo’s nomination for the 2012 African Footballer of the Year accolade.

The exclusion of the 30-year-old from the five-man shortlist has received massive condemnation across Africa continent with many questioning the integrity of the awards.

The Henan Construction star played an influential role for less-fancied Zambia as they romped to a historic African triumph, beating giants Cote D’voire to win the 2012 African Cup of Nations title in Gabon and Equitorial Guinea.

The former Black Stars striker has waded into the controversy by lashing out at CAF for Katongo’s snub and believes it is a proof of corruption in the system.

“Something must be terrible wrong with the decision not to include him (Katongo),” Arhinful said

“It simply beat imagination and logic. That for a player who inspired a whole nation to win the Cup of Nations is ignored, what are they  are talking about.

“CAF should make the criteria clear to us. The same thing happen when at a time that Sammy Kuffuor had  won everything with Bayern Munich, the award was given to Diouf citing various reasons.

“It’s not fair and it raises questions about the integrity of the awards.

Ivorian duo Yahaya Toure and Didier Drogba as well as Andre Ayew, Alexander Song and Demba Ba are in the reckoning for the African individual award.

The Awards ceremony is slated to take place in Ghana’s capital, Accra on December 20.
