Castle Lager have renewed their sponsorship of Bafana Bafana for another five years, SAFA announced on Thursday.
The deal is believed to be worth a minimum of R100-million over the five years.
The beer has been a sponsor of the national since readmission into international football in 1992, and has been involved with South African football as a whole since 1959.
The news will come as a relief to SAFA, who had been worried that a failure to reach the last two Africa Cup of Nations finals, and uncertainty over their efforts for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, might cost them in the pocket.
It will also be a boost to new coach Gordon Igesund, with some of the sponsorship money no doubt going to helping him prepare for those two tournaments.
The entrance of Carling Black Label into local football with their sponsorship of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, as well as the Carling Black Label Cup pre-season fixture, could have aided Castle Lager’s decision to renew.
