As part of activities to mark its 10th anniversary celebrations, students of the African University College of Communications (AUCC), one of the leading journalism schools, has organized a health screening and blood donation exercise in Accra.

The exercise was organized in collaboration with the Ridge Regional Hospital.

According to the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, Professor Kwaku Armah, people did not take care of themselves until they got sick.

He said one of the diseases that killed most Ghanaians was breast cancer and women were mostly affected because they did not go for breast examination regularly.

Professor Armah added that the school was not only donating blood but also checking blood pressure, haemoglobin level, and hepatitis status.

He urged the public to go for regular check-ups and not wait until they got sick before visiting the hospital.

He also appealed to the media to educate the general public about their health by giving them the right information as they also contributed to health development of Ghana.

Ato Amoaning Annan, vice president, administration, said AUCC organized the health screening and blood donation exercise in order to help the community.

He stated that most of their graduates were doing well due to the training they received and the modern facilities acquired by the school to equip them in their training.

Mrs. Ama Essian, a senior nurse at the Ridge Hospital, also urged the public to donate blood in order to save lives.
