New York Rangers into Stanley Cup finals
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist had a comfortable shutout, making 18 saves as his team completed a 4-2 Eastern Conference finals win.
Dominic Moore scored the only goal at Madison Square Garden, with the Rangers into the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since they claimed the last of their four crowns in 1994.
Dustin Tokarski made 31 saves for the Canadiens, but they were unable to get on the scoresheet to force a deciding game.
Lundqvist became the Rangers’ all-time leader for post-season wins with 42, one in front of the goaltender who was in the net when New York last won the title in 1994, Mike Richter.
The Rangers will face either the Los Angeles Kings or Chicago Blackhawks in the final, with the former leading that series 3-2.
Lundqvist had made a strong save from Thomas Vanek moments before Moore’s goal, which came with under two minutes remaining in the second period.
The Rangers had 32 shots to 18 in a dominant performance.
