NDC To Check Contestants …Modules For Disqualification Out Soon

020e193915527 176642 NDC To Check Contestants …Modules For Disqualification Out SoonThe National Democratic Congress (NDC) is working out modalities that will disqualify candidates for various positions who would use crude and awkward ways to campaign.

The party will not tolerate the use of foul language and assassination of character of competitors.

A committee will soon be put in place to come out with downright policies that would constitute foul language and character assassination.

A senior NDC executive at the party’s headquarters at Kokomlemle in Accra told The Enquirer over the weekend that the NDC wants to avoid the kind of thing going on in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) where candidates vying to lead the party are biting each other.

“We all saw what happened in the run-up to the NPP congress at Tamale. The insults, attacks and vilification were just too much that it has affected the party unity and that is why we want to have such modalities,” he said.

The NDC came out with a timetable for elections at all levels during the 22nd anniversary celebration in Accra last week.

The party is coming out with biometric registration its members and that would made it the first of its kind to be undertaken by a political party.

The senior party executive told The Enquirer at the sidelines of the anniversary celebration that the party would not allow individuals to use their interest in positions to destroy the party.

Even before the timetable would come out, there were pockets of attacks and peddling of falsehoods about certain members of the party holding positions.

The incumbent chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, and the General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, have been attacked on various platform because they are widely believed to seek re-election.

Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Yaw Obimpeh, has also been attacked by members of his party in that region because he is likely to seek re-election.

The story is not different from the Greater Accra Region as Mr. Ade Coker has also been under scathing attack by persons interested in becoming the Regional Chairman.

Interestingly, the incumbents under attacks are not responding apart from Dr. Adjei, who once said that this cool-headedness does not mean he is weak.

The senior NDC executive told The Enquirer that the party would crack the whip appropriately because of party unity.

“We want to enter 2016 with clean heart within the party and therefore those who will insult, attack and malign others because they want to hold positions will not be entertained,” he said.

The NPP in the run-up to its Tamale congress experienced bitter campaign as insults and personality attacks were the order of the day.

Unity within the party broke down to the extent that the level of acrimony within the party is still high after the congress to elect new executives.

The party’s move to have a flagbearer has sparked the use of foul language by followers of the front runners in the race, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Mr. John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
