NDC, NPP Chairmen
March For Peace As A sign of peace and unity, the chairmen of the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP, for Drobonso, in the sekyere Afram plains District on Thursday marched together on the street.
Clad in red, yellow and green colours of the national flag, the two top politicians,
NDC’s Gibson Akromah and NPP’s Sarpong Acheampong proudly held each other’s hand as they majestically walked together on the street.
This commendable spectacle occurred some few minutes after the Supreme Court gave its verdict on the 2012 election petition which saw President Mahama being retained as Ghana’s president.
An initiative of Donkor Fusieni, DCE for Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region, the move was to display to the people that the court’s verdict was a victory for Ghana and not a single political party.
Drobonso had been identified as a flashpoint for trouble so the DCE planned this historic walk between the NDC and NPP chairmen to prove to their supporters about the need for them to unite.
The NDC and NPP chairmen were applauded by the people in the area who lined up the streets to catch a glimpse of the gurus of the two leading political parties jubilating together.
Speaking with DAILY GUIDE, Hon Donkor said the historic walk between the two political big wigs helped to reduce tension as the people in the area commended them for a good display.
Hon Donkor, it would be recalled, was in the news recently after he banned the sale of all alcoholic beverages in his district on Thursday, which was the day for the declaration of the Supreme Court verdict.
According to him, the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages was enforced on Thursday, stressing that the move helped to maintain law and order at Drobonso and other nearby areas.Ghana, the Sekyere Afram Plains DCE stated, could not develop without peace so he charged the populace to unite and work hard to promote the country now that the court case had been settled.
