NCR in Ghana; 65 years of business commitment
NCR in Ghana was established in 1948, as a subsidiary of the parent company, NCR Corporation.
NCR Ghana provides industry specific solutions and consulting services to government and semi-government organisations, banking institutions, businesses in the retail, communications and other selected industries.
NCR’s customers in Ghana are some of the leading organisations representing key sectors including government, telecommunications, financial, and retail.
Almost all solutions released by NCR Corporation are available immediately for sale in the Ghana market.
NCR Ghana however markets only products that can be fully supported by trained engineers, Professional service personnel, sales personnel and project managers.
This has enabled the NCR brand to be strong and trusted in Ghana. Products marketed by NCR Ghana fall into two main categories, namely self-service and Payment.
NCR Ghana’s main focus is on the following solutions: Self-Service (Automated Teller Machines and related solutions); Branch Automation; Payment Solutions (Electronic Cheque Clearing and Related Solutions); Retail Solutions; IT Infrastructure and Systems Integration; Consumables (print media, paper rolls, journal rolls, cartridges, among other things.)
The first NCR Cash Register arrived in Accra in 1948 and the first Automated Teller Machine (ATM) was installed in 1993. The ATM is still in full operation at a customer site in Accra.
In 2008, NCR Ghana successfully implemented a National Electronic Cheque Codeline Clearing System and Automated Clearing House system, which enables the banks to easily scan and exchange cheques electronically between themselves through the Bank of Ghana platform at Ghana Interbank Payment Settlement System (GhIPSS).
This project was part of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), funded by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) in Ghana.
With the successful implementation of the project, the cheque clearing cycle for cheques was reduced from 4-7 days to 1 day.
This has drastically improved business operations, as well as the confidence of the public in the banking system of the country.
The success of these projects by NCR serves to improve the payment systems in the country and also supports financial and non-financial institutions to provide enhanced experience and convenience to their valued customers.
Since then, NCR Ghana has moved forward and as a long-standing, truly trusted and reliable partner in the banking industry in Ghana, NCR is taking a leadership position in the country by introducing next generation self-service automation, online banking and branch automation, driven by a consultancy approach and supported by end-to-end managed services.
