Ibrahim Sodiq, a 47-year-old man on Wednesday approached an Ilorin Area Court for divorce on the ground that his wife, Jemilat, keeps bad friends that have negative influence on her.
The petitioner, who resides at Abayawo area of Ilorin, asked the court to dissolve his six-year-old marriage because his wife has bad friends.
“My wife is associating with women that will have bad influence on her and will mislead her in her marital home,” he said.
The petitioner also told the court that his wife was fond of keeping late nights without considering the negative consequences.
Sodiq said that the marriage was contracted in 2008 and had produced two children, Lukuman, and Zainab.
“My lord, I want an end to this marriage because my wife’s lifestyle has changed negatively since she prefers to listen to her friends instead of her husband” he said.
The accused prayed the court to decline her husband’s request, saying she was still interested in the marriage.
“My husband is only trying to separate me from my childhood friends, but I promise to abide by his rules for the sake of my children and marriage” she said.
Jemilat prayed the court for an adjournment to enable her make peace with her husband.
The presiding judge, Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case to July 29 for a report of settlement or continuation of hearing.
