My Time: Isaac Aryee sets world title target with backing of new manager
By Prince Dornu-Leiku
Isaac Aryee AKA My Time is beaming with confidence and promising to go on and win titles as he chases his childhood dream following the signing of a management deal with Accra based businessman and boxing enthusiast, Abubakari Issah who also manages former WBO Africa Light Welterweight champion, Ebenezer Lantei Lamptey.
‘In the past, things did not move well because I did not have a full time manger but now that I’ve got a manager, its very good because I believe he can push me to achieve my goals and get to a world title soon,’ an obviously gratified Aryee said at Monday’s signing ceremony.
And the news couldn’t have come at a better time for 20 year old Aryee, a former WABU Light Welterweight champion who did not have the best of career starts, suffering defeat in all of his first three professional fights and 4 of the first 5.
Aryee never wavered though and patiently he honed his skills and has mounted a great comeback to put his current career record at 17-6, 16 KOs. His only defeat in 13 fights since June 2011 was a unanimous points’ decision in a bid for the WBC Silver Youth World Welterweight belt to Konstatin Ponomarev in Russia last June.
‘I am ready to take on the world now so I’m throwing a challenge to my new manager to give me all the support and help I need and I will deliver him the world title,’ Aryee pledged after sealing the 3-year contract beginning May 26, 2014.
Abubakari Issah on his part expressed delight at acquiring the signature of the boxer he described as very promising and vowed to push him to world glory.
‘We are ready to help the boxer to achieve his dreams. We will make sure that within three months we’ll push for WBO or IBF Africa title for him. All we want is for the boxer to be very serious, punctual and determined with his training because we’ll support him with equipment, financially, medically, physically and everything,’ Mr. Issah said.
Emmanuel Teiko Tagoe alias Coach Akese who trains Bukom Banku is also training Isaac Aryee and the experienced boxing trainer is confident his boxer will make his new managers proud.
‘With the help of the manager, we are ready to honour any fight and take whatever title we get. We’ll never stop working hard until we become champion,’ Coach Akese told Allsports.com.gh.
Former professional boxer, Patrick Okine also assumes immediate responsibility as Matchmaker for Aryee under the terms of the contract and he is pledging to deliver the big fights the boxer’s team so craves.
‘I’m promising to get the boxer a Commonwealth Africa title fight on 14 July and if he can win that then we would look at IBF or WBO. I personally have confidence in the boxer that’s why I’m pushing for this fight for him,’ Okine said.
