The Winner of the Miss Excel Plus beauty Pageant Season IV Dorinda Armstrong- Mensah has pledged her unflinching support towards the eradication of stigmatization and discrimination against the mentally ill people in the country.
Miss Excel Plus, also known in her life as Egyiraba, said that having witnessed the terrible conditions under which patients live in psychiatric hospitals, touches her heart deeply hence she decide to help them in whatever capacity.
In this regard, the beauty queen seized the opportunity tour the Accra Psychiatric Hospital to familiarized her with the management and also identify some of the challenges of the hospital .
According to Egyriba, she would use her brand to help change the face of psychiatric Hospitals in the country. “We should not neglect the mentally ill people, you can also become victims I chose aids for mentally challenged project to embark on, due to the unfortunate circumstances which ended one of my brothers in the psychiatric hospital”.
She therefore called on government, Philanthropists, NGO’s, stakeholders the society as well to help address the needs the inmates.
The Chief Psychiatrist Dr. Akwasi Osei, lauded the initiative of the young beauty queen for choosing the mental hospitals as her project. He said the entire management would assist her in all endevours to achieve the desired results.
He mentioned the following as challenges worrying the hospital: Poor electrical connections, dilapidated of building structures, lack of clothing and funds as well.
He therefore appealed to the government, Philanthropists, NGOs and individuals to come to aid of the hospital.
