Minister Urges Parents To Invest In Education

The outgoing Western Regional Minister, Mr Ebenezer Kwadwo Teye Addo, has appealed to parents and guardians to invest in their children and wards’ education so as to break the vicious cycle of poverty.

He said they should desist from frivolous expenses and rather provide brighter future for their children.

Mr. Addo said this at a sod-cutting ceremony for a Community Senior High School (SHS) at Bamianko in the Nzema East Municipality.

The Community SHS was one of the 200 SHS promised in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto in the 2012 electioneering campaign.

He said the government was keen on providing free secondary education and urged the people take advantage to get educated.

Mr. Addo said it would be difficult for uneducated people to gain employment in the future and appealed to children-of-school- going age in the area to take advantage of the school to gain secondary education.

He said the school would open up the area for business opportunities and urged them to build hostels that could be rented out to students who would come from the surrounding communities to attend school.

The Regional Minister said nurses’ quarters would be built to accommodate the nurses manning the only clinic in the town.

He said the SHS block would be completed in August next year so that new admissions would be made for the 2015/2016 academic year and expressed the hope that many people from the host community would gain admission into the school.

Earlier, the Omanhene of Gwira Traditional Area, Awulea Angama Tu-Agyan II, appealed to the government to provide students in the area with COCOBOD scholarship since the area also produced cocoa.

He also appealed for upgrading of roads in the area and a bridge over Ankobra River to facilitate trade.

The Chief said there were only two police stations in the municipality and appealed to the Ghana Police Service to open police posts at Bamianko,Gwira Banso, Eshiem and Kutukrom to boost security in the area.
