Kumasi, July 7, GNA – Dr Alexis Nang-Beifubah, Ashanti Regional Director of Health, has called for a more aggressive push towards the development of e-medicine in the country.

This, he said, is the path to travel, given the unacceptably low doctor/nurse to patient ratio.

He noted that modern medical practice largely rely on technology to achieve the desired outcomes in diagnostics, treatment and medication.

Dr Nang-Beifubah made reference to how medical imaging is helping physicians not only to see inside the body of a patient without making an incision but also when to perform surgery where necessary.

Addressing a day’s health workshop in Kumasi, he called for active private sector support in this direction, saying, e-medicine offer an opportunity to improve the quality of health care, particularly in the deprived areas.

The programme was organised by GECAD Healthcare, distributors of medical equipment, with Ghana Health Services and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, jointly providing the technical assistance.

It was held on the theme: ‘Contemporary medical examination and diagnostics,’ and targeted laboratory technicians, medical doctors, nurses, dealers in medical equipment and other health professionals.

Dr Nang-Beifubah spoke of the need for regular interaction among health professionals, both locally and abroad, to promote technology transfer in medical practice.

Nana Adu Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of GECAD Healthcare, said his company would continue to create the needed platform for health professionals to upgrade their knowledge and skills.
