Massive Turnout @ Joy Fm Old Skuuls Reunion
Accra-based radio station, Joy FM , last Saturday, September 28 turned the entire Accra metropolis upside-down with this year’s annual Old Skuuls Reunion held at the Independence Square in Accra.
An ecstatic crowd, made up of over 15,000 old students, thronged the venue to partake in the event.
The Joy FM annual Skuuls Reunion brought together old students from all Ghanaian second cycle and tertiary institutions on one date, one venue and on one stage to reminisce the exciting school days.
Despite initial fears that the change in venue might negatively affect this year’s event, thousands turned up.
Among the games they participated in were basketball, 5-aside football, tug of peace, eating and jama competitions.
The aim of the programme was to unite old school friends and give them the opportunity to reminisce about their days in school.
The Vandals, students of Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana held the crowds spellbound with their majestic walk to the podium where they mobbed Joy FM and the BBC’s Komla Dumor.
The atmosphere on Saturday was charged with various jama songs from the old students who entered the Trade Fair grounds with their own traditional and adapted instruments, to pump up school-based performances.
Several artistes such as Kwaw Kese, Keche, Double, Eno, Chris Waddle, Kobby Rana and a host of others also took the stage to treat the gathering to various genres of rap, hip-life, high life and club music. There were also interesting mixes from DJ Black, who wowed the crowd till the event came to a close.
