Make Jesus the centre of Easter – Otabil
The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Pastor Mensa Otabil has admonished Christians to put Jesus at the centre of activities to mark this year’s Easter.
He says Easter must not be used by Christians to have fun since the season “is not about our own fun.”
Preaching about the resurrection of the Christian Jesus on Easter Sunday, the motivational speaker observed that: “These days Christmas seems to be about Santa Claus who didn’t die for us. But Christmas has shifted from Jesus to Santa Claus, who comes to town. And Easter is now becoming about Easter eggs and in some countries, Easter bunnies and in Ghana, paragliding and all kinds of activities.”
Dr Otabil said: “Although there are many benefits we can derive from it (Easter) in terms of family reunions and people meeting together and people travelling to their hometowns and so on, it’s all about Jesus. And we have to put Jesus at the centre of Easter.”
As Christians all over the world celebrate Easter — the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ — thousands of Ghanaian revellers have thronged Kwahu-Atibie in the Eastern Region for the annual paragliding festival which has become an attractive source of local tourism.
The Kwahu mountains have become synonymous with Easter celebrations in Ghana with numerous fun activities taking place there.
