Lower Manya Assembly Confirms President’s Nominee
Joseph Frederick Kwame Acolatse
Joseph Frederick Kwame Acolatse, a 60-year-old former Managing Director of Times Corporation, has been confirmed as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lower Manya Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region.
He polled 30 votes, representing 90 per cent of total votes.
Fifteen out of the 45 Assembly members, who took part in the election, voted against the President’s nominee, with one ballot being rejected by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) from Odumase Krobo, who supervised the election.
The Lower Manya Municipal Assembly has been without a MCE for about four months now, after the President asked the former MCE Issac Agbo Tetteh to handle over to the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council due to dispute between the MCE, the youth and chiefs of the Krobo Land.
The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong, thanked the Assembly members for endorsing the President’s nominee for the first time.
She urged them to support the new MCE by evolving plans to help the assembly to catch up with other districts, whose MCEs assumed office a long time.
She said the absence of a MCE had tremendously affected the development of the district.
The deputy regional minister noted that the confirmation of Mr. Acolaste signified the beginning of many positive developments, adding that he would not able to effectively develop the Assembly without the assistance of the members, chiefs and opinion leaders of Krobo Land.
Mavis Frimpong further urged the members to continue to remain united and work together to make the decentralization process meaningful to the people.
Hon Acolatse, on his behalf, thanked President John Mahama for nominating him, saying through hard work they would be able to bring positive change to the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
Mr. Acolatse further promised to shun divisive actions and offer effective leadership to the people in the district.
